As Chef Partner of Restauration, Philip Pretty brings his love of rustic modern cuisine to Long
Beach foodies, combining fresh local seasonal produce, hormone-‐free beef, pork and chicken as well as fresh, sustainable seafood with French-‐inspired techniques to create plates of delectable fare.
Chef Pretty is a Le Cordon Bleu graduate, classically trained in French and Contemporary cuisine. When he isn’t in the kitchen, he’s maintaining an urban garden of his own and spending quality time with his family including wife Stephanie and daughters Rose (1.5 y/o) and Olive (4 y/o). Joining Restauration, designing its seasonal menu and overseeing its kitchen operations is like a homecoming for the notable chef.
A Long Beach native, Chef Pretty has traveled around Los Angeles for the last nine years serving as executive chef in notable kitchens, including fundamentalLA and AXE. He also served as Chef de Cuisine with Gordon Ramsey at The London and Sous Chef at Joe’s in Venice.
Though cooking from a young age for his family since his mom was working two jobs, Pretty’s
career began at age 26. When Pretty finished Le Cordon Bleu, his first line cook position landed
him at Providence where he started to work his way up the kitchen food chain.
Three years later, he served as a Sous Chef at Michelin star restaurant Joe’s in Venice, where he learned the definition of good work ethic in fine dining, executing cuisine at it’s highest levels by a true Chef that was hands on in the kitchen leading by example.
While working with Gordon Ramsay at The London from 2010-‐2012, Pretty experienced his most influential tutelage from Chef Anthony Keene which helped mold him into the Executive Chef at Axe where he learned true seasons and sustainability.
Chef Pretty’s culinary talent hasn’t gone unnoticed. Publications such as The Hundreds, LA Times and Eater LA have showcased his talents and recipes. At Restauration, Chef Pretty continues to create unique comfort food cuisine using only the freshest ingredients.Chef Pretty’s culinary experience, perceptive palate, passion for layering fresh components and thoughtful food are the key ingredients of his success.
